Can you guess whose royal wedding tiara was worth £10 MILLION - Meghan, Kate or Eugenie’s? - Express

A royal wedding always captures the public’s imagination. They are romantic days full of lavish pomp and ceremony. Meghan, Kate and Eugenie have all enjoyed high profile, televised royal wedding in recent years. But which woman wore the most expensive tiara?

Deborah Papas, gemologist and jewellery expert from Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn tells Express.co.uk which tiara is most expensive of Princess Eugenie, Meghan and Kate’s.

Meghan Markle’s tiara - £2 million

Deborah Papas, gemmologist and jewellery expert from Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn told Express.co.uk: “Something borrowed from the Queen! How exciting this must have been for Meghan!”

She describes the piece: “This stunning bandeau is peppered with diamonds and set in platinum, the noblest of all metals. The centre section was originally a wedding gift from the County of Lincoln to Queen Mary in 1893 and is a pendant/brooch which I believe can be cleverly detached and worn as such.

“It is set with a large brilliant cut (possibly old-cut) diamond estimated to be approximately 10 carats or more and surrounded by nine smaller brilliant-cut diamonds (but not so small at an estimated two to three carats each).

:There is a cluster either side also of seven round diamonds and an array of additional round brilliant-cut diamonds all over this 11 jointed art-deco piece.”

The tiara was it was originally made for Queen Mary, the Queen’s Grandmother in 1932 and bequeathed to her granddaughter, Queen on her death in 1953. Papas said, “It is hard to put a value on this little seen piece but could be worth up to £2 million.”

Kate Middleton tiara - £1,250,000

On her 2011 wedding day Kate’s radiant smile and beautiful eyes were set off with a rather modest tiara, according to the expert.

Deborah said: “This tiara was also ‘borrowed’ by from Her Majesty, The Queen on Kate’s wedding day. “It has 149 baguette-cut diamonds as well as an astounding 739 brilliant cut diamonds of varying weights (size), with the largest being at the top in the centre. Most of the diamonds are small in comparison to the piece worn by The Duchess of Sussex but are subtle and beautifully set.”

She added: “This halo scroll tiara was made in platinum by Cartier for the Duke of York to give to his wife just before he became King George VI in 1936. The Queen Mother gave it to her daughter, at the time, Princess Elizabeth for her 18th Birthday present in 1944.

“The Queen Mother was only ever photographed wearing it once and then she was seen wearing much grander pieces. The Queen has not been seen wearing it much either but has been lending it out to other royals.

“It has been seen worn by her sister, Princess Margaret and her daughter, Princess Anne and was been aired again on Kate’s special day nearly eight years ago.”

Deborah said: “It’s not my favourite of the Royal tiaras but one that has surely been passed around and I think was very suited to Kate and not over the top and the earrings she worn complimented each other well.

“It is very hard to estimate the value but as a Cartier piece, I would estimate it to be worth approximately £750,000 - £1,250,000.”

Princess Eugenie’s wedding tiara - £10 million

Princess Eugenie wpre an impressive 93.70 cts cabochon Emerald Tiara for her wedding in October this year, which was hand made by Boucheron in 1919.

Deborah said: “In keeping with the fashion of the time, this tiara was designed in the Russian headdress style, made of finely pierced platinum, which was kept delicately simple, although intricate in detail, to show off the main stone.

“Accompanying the centre emerald are matching old step-cut emeralds, as well as ample pave set brilliant and rose cut diamonds.

“This piece is certainly exquisite; the centre emerald has a wonderfully vivid colour and large size, something which is rare to find these days.

“With such strong historical provenance, from Mrs Greville to the Queen Mother, and now the Queen, an elegant jewel such as this would be estimated to fetch in the region of £5-10 million at auction.”
