Prince Philip car crash: Duke of Edinburgh involved in shock collision - ambulance called - Express

The 97-year-old was unharmed in the accident near the royal family"s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Witnesses said the Range Rover being driven by the Duke had overturned after pulling out from a driveway on the A149, according to the BBC. He was helped out of the car and was reportedly conscious but "very, very shocked" and shaken.

Two people in the other car, a female driver and female passenger, received treatment in hospital for minor injuries, police said. The pair have since been discharged. 

Pictures from the crash show the Duke"s Range Rover on its side while another car appears to have crashed into a bush.

Prince Philip is back at Sandringham and has received the all-clear from a doctor after being examined as a precaution.

Berneen Caney, 25, who witnessed the scene of the accident, said: "It appeared to be quite serious, there was a lot of glass over the road as well as debris, I saw one of the cars was quite badly damaged, as for the Range Rover, its windows were smashed."

The support worker from King"s Lynn added: "By the time I passed by, the Range Rover had been tipped back up on its wheels.

"I didn"t see that much as I was more concerned the car in front of me was braking to turn off and that there was glass and debris all over the road.

"There was a lot of people there including police, and there was a paramedic there too."

Both drivers involved in the collision were breathalysed, as is force policy, and both provided negative readings, Norfolk Police said.

The force said: "Norfolk Police can confirm officers attended a collision on the A149 at Sandringham today.

"Officers were called to the scene shortly before 3pm after a Land Rover and Kia were involved in a collision.

"The male driver of the Land Rover was uninjured. The female driver of the Kia suffered cuts while the female passenger sustained an arm injury, both requiring hospital treatment.

"We can confirm both casualties from the Kia have been treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King"s Lynn and have since been discharged.

"The road remained open and both vehicles were recovered a short time later."

The Queen and Prince Philip have been staying at Sandringham since Christmas.

Philip married Elizabeth in 1947 and has been by his wife"s side throughout her long reign.

Since retiring from official solo duties in 2017, he has appeared in public alongside the Queen and other members of the royal family at events and church services. He had successful hip replacement surgery last year.

The former naval officer did not accompany the Queen to a church service on Christmas Day last month, though a royal source said he was in good health.
