What’s better than one royal baby? For enthusiasts of the monarchy, two-in-one-go would be a very special occasion. Thanks to bookmakers in Britain, the chances of Meghan Markle birthing twins are being highly touted.


We’ve waited ages for some good royal gossip, and seem to have snared two major talking points from the weekend:


A report from the Daily Mail suggests that a feud between the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex is the real reason behind the latter’s plans to movie residencies. Prince Harry and Meghan currently live on Kensington Property grounds, along with Prince William and Kate, but are now looking to shift 20 miles to Frogmore Cottage.

However, it is Meghan’s pregnancy that’s now taking centre stage. Popular bookmakers Paddy Power – you may remember them from the Oscar Pistorius trial – have suspended betting on Markle having twins, following a flurry of “suspicious activity” on the market.


As Inside Guide report, another betting firm have since slashed their odds on the Duchess bringing a double-bundle of joy into the word. Coral dropped their odds from 8/1 to 4/1 – these low figures suggest she’s now more likely to have two tots in tow.


Whenever the bookies suspend betting, it’s usually due to an abnormally-high number of bets being placed on one specific outcome. It mainly happens in sports fixtures, when something looks increasingly likely to occur based on what the punters are saying.


Are there any twins in the Royal Family?


The rumour mill may be in overdrive – and those 4/1 odds look deliciously small – but there may not be any real cause to get excited just yet: It’s been 588 years since twins were born into the royal family.


James I of Scotland’s wife, Queen Joan, gave birth to two boys on 16 October 1430, Alexander and James. Alexander died the same year, however, while James ended up succeeding his father.
