The Queen"s first openly gay Royal Footman QUITS after being demoted

Ollie Roberts, 21-years-old, has tendered his resignation because he feels “let down” by Buckingham Palace, an insider told the Sun.

The insider said: “Ollie was informed he had been overdoing the press stuff and they knew he was behind articles and gossip pieces.

“They told him his profile was becoming too high and he wasn"t there to draw attention to himself.”

Mr Roberts, who is from Wales and previously served in Royal Airforce, had contemplated the situation for some time, but ultimately decided he had been hard done by and he should resign, the insider claims.

The royal source added: “He thought about it for a couple of days then decided he should quit. He feels badly let down when he was proud to be gay in such a good job.”

His first public appearance was during the Trooping the Colour ceremony, an annual event celebrating the Queen’s official birthday. She was 92 this year.

He had previously posted pictures on his Instagram in the grounds of Buckingham Palace, suggesting his new appointment.

Royal fans had been delighted to see a representative of the LGBQT community in such a prominent position in the Palace.

The Queen’s Footman must ride on all carriages with the Queen at formal ceremonies and when she visits her other residences.

It is a role with high honours, like collecting the monarch’s mail at Buckingham Palace and walking her beloved Corgis.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the news of Mr Robert’s resignation.

Mr Roberts also refused to comment last night and has deleted his Instagram profile.

The Royal Family have been praised in recent years for their stance on LGBQT issues.

Prince William told gay mag Attitude in 2016 that young LGBQT people are “truly brave to speak out”.

He added: “No one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason and no one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives.”

Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a cousin of the Queen, made headlines for becoming the first member of the royal family to have a same-sex wedding on September 23.

He married his partner James Coyle at a country house in Devon.

His three daughters were present, but no members of the Royal Family attended.
