Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Reportedly Found Themselves a Sydney Mansion

Who will house these royals? Who will give them shelter in their time of need? Who will welcome them into their home and/or resort and say, “Put your feet up, royals. You’ve had a long one.” Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are poised to arrive in Australia in about two months time, where they’ll attend the Invictus Games before touring the region, and so their accommodations are getting sorted. One Australian tabloid believes they’ve found the quiet place these royals will rest their heads while in Sydney.

The Herald Sun reports that the honor will go to the Villa Del Mare, a “multi-million-dollar luxury home” on Point Piper in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs. (The Herald Sun is like the New York Post of Melbourne, but with 100 percent less Supreme, so grains of salt, and all that.) It has “breathtaking beachfront views” and “eight bedrooms.” It’s over 6,500 square feet! There are wrought-iron balustrades! Terracotta roof tiles! A view to murder for! It is capital ‘s’ Shelter.

In 2015, the Villa was listed for $39 million and reportedly sold for $41 million after the former Treasurer Joe Hockey, who is now Australia’s ambassador to the U.S., forced one of China’s richest men to unload it (more information for international real-estate wonks here). Lola Wang Li, married to a former renewable-energy-projects heavyweight in mainland China, bought it. And now, allegedly, it will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s for a spell.

Please enjoy this video of the home, which is as soothing as it is a PowerPoint set to a prelude:

When Prince William and Kate Middleton traveled to Australia in 2014, they glamped in the Northern Territory in $2,900-a-night luxury accommodations. In 1983, Princess Diana and Prince Charles “roughed it” in $117 a night motel in Alice Springs that featured a color television and no outdoor furniture for the pool. The inn made the cedarwood hot tub available to the couple, but that barely holds a candle to an infinity pool looking out over the harbor set with ”professional garden lighting.” Of course, setting the tabloid’s sights on the Villa could be the work of an over-zealous realtor, but regardless, it seems these royals are trending up.
